Find out what else to expect with this compact SUV.
Trim Levels
When looking at the 2019 Escape, know that there are four trim levels: S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. The base trim has 17-inch steel wheels, while the SE trim has 17-inch steel wheels. The SEL trim includes a power liftgate, and the top-of-the-line Titanium offers a tow package, which includes sway control and a transmission oil cooler.
Engine
Ford has three engine options for the Escape. It comes standard with a 168-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that works well for driving around town. The middle option is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 245 horsepower, and it comes standard on the SE and SEL trims. The most fuel-efficient option is a 1.5-liter turbo-four that has 179 horsepower, and you can find this engine on the Titanium trim. All engines come with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
Pertaining to fuel efficiency, the 2019 Escape gets an estimated 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine gets 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Your best option, however, is the 1.5-liter engine that earns 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
When properly equipped, the SUV can tow up to 3,500 pounds. This number makes it have one of the highest towing capacities in its class.
Interior
Seating five people comfortably, the 2019 Escape provides excellent space and comfort for all passengers. The hushed cabin is attractive and features quality materials. It has plenty of cargo space, with 34 cubic feet of space behind the back row and 68 cubic feet of space if you fold down the back seat.
The base S trim for the 2019 Escape comes standard with cloth upholstery and SYNC infotainment system with a 4.2-inch touch-screen display. The SE trim has a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat and SYNC 3 infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.
The SEL trim adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, while the Titanium trim includes a 10-speaker premium audio system and navigation system.
Safety Features
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2019 Escape the highest rating in four crash tests. It also received the second-highest rating in driver-side small overlap front test. In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the vehicle a perfect five-star overall rating with five stars in frontal and side crash tests.
The 2019 Escape has two sets of LATCH car-seat connectors on the rear outboard seats along with an upper tether on the rear middle seats.
